Dirk Hunt

Director of Laboratory Accreditation

Dirk Hunt joins the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) as the director of laboratory accreditation after previously serving as the associate director of the University of Florida Racing Laboratory. He was also the laboratory’s technical manager.

As HIWU’s director of laboratory accreditation, Hunt oversees the quality and performance standards of the laboratories contracted to analyze samples under the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority’s Anti-Doping and Medication Control Program. These laboratories all must satisfy the same performance requirements.

In addition to his time at the University of Florida Racing Laboratory, he brings 11 years of biopharmaceutical experience in analytical chemistry, production, and GMP and FDA regulatory compliance and auditing as a transfer manager for a viral vector gene therapy company, operations and process manager for a regenerative medicine company, and as an analytical chemist at a large molecule contract manufacturing facility. He also has more than 20 years of academic research experience in multiple areas of biology, biochemistry, and virology.

Hunt graduated from Indiana University with bachelor’s degrees in both biology and biochemistry.
