Advisory: Reminders Regarding Permitted Medications During Routine Timed Workouts

The Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) reminds horsemen and veterinarians that Covered Horses are subject to testing at any time, including following routine timed workouts (Post-Work testing). Testing following workouts is not limited to Vets’ List workouts. Please note that Post-Work samples are not collected after all routine timed workouts. Trainers will be notified of selection, and sampling will be performed, within one hour of the completion of the workout.

Atypical Findings Policy Summary

The Atypical Findings Policy, which is included in the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority’s Anti-Doping and Medication Control (ADMC) Program, offers horsemen the opportunity to provide evidence to show that a substance entered a Covered Horse through environmental contamination (or was not administered exogenously), which may result in the test result being deemed a Negative Finding by the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU).

Clarification for Anti-Ulcer Medication, Isotonic Electrolyte Solution Administration and Products Intended for External Use Only

Pursuant to Rule 4211 of the Rule Series 4000 (The Prohibited List) of the ADMC Program, only feed, hay, and water are permitted during the Race Period (the 48 hours preceding scheduled Post-Time or a Vets’ List Workout), with some exceptions. Under Rule 4212, anti-ulcer medications are an exception.
